THEMES in my WORK
"Even the greatest love will fly out the window without truth, honor, and duty to anchor it down," says one of my favorite characters. Truth, honor, and duty don't always stand up to temptation. What then? I find myself continually exploring the boundaries of love, of forgiveness, of redemption.
SOME HAVE SAID....AND I SAY.....

Dark Angels.......
"Best kind of historical fiction" Washington Post; Historical Novel Society's Editors' Pick; Doubleday Book Club.
I love this novel. Alice displays all my worst qualities, and I adore her for it. This was really fun to write because the court of Charles II is just full of interesting people, and Charles tops the list. I love Brownie's story.

Now Face to Face......
"Brilliant evocation of a turbulent...period" Allison Weir; Book of Month Club main selection.
This was my attempt to broaden themes. This will probably be the only novel in which there is American history; there is a primitive, masculine energy to much of it that makes me as tired as I used to be in fifth grade when the boys just pushed too hard.

Through A Glass Darkly......
"Greatest romance ever written" Romance Writers Report 2001; Book of Month Club main selection.
This was such an innocent experience for me, writing without realizing others would read me and have opinions about everything. I'll never be able to write with the innocence this book displays, but it's my goal.
